The Black Iberian Bellota pig is an exclusive breed of the Iberian Peninsula. In fact, they are only reared in southwest Peninsula.
Iberian pork is produced from the Black Iberian pig. Modern farming ensures that we have a continued, year-round supply of Iberian pork as these pigs are nourished with cereals, wheat, maize, barley, etc.
Traditionally the pigs eat acorns when they are in season, from mid-December to the end of March. The pigs are free to roam the meadows and completely free-range. The nourishment from the acorns produces an even more superior meat. This meat is called Iberian Bellota meat, not to be confused with the above, which is Iberian pork.
The superior quality of Iberian meat is due to the fact that the source, pigs, are no less than 10 months old. The pig has a genetic characteristic that stores big fat deposits giving a beautiful, fat marbled, and juicy meat.
